E.S.I.G.M.A.

eSigma’s service integration methodology, E.S.I.G.M.A., is our internal process for providing process assurance to organizations that wish to deploy or consume composite applications provisioned on our network.

Providing Web Services as primary interfaces to collaborative processes requires a level of assurance when delivering them over the World Wide Web. eSigma developed a framework for providing organizations with the level of assurance required for delivering Web Services reliably over this tested medium for sharing information and services.

 Define

Web Services are defined by their WSDL (Web Service Definition Language). There are a number of service types that work with an array of platforms and require provisioning. It is important to capture Meta-Data associated with the Web Service in order to properly provision them within your IT infrastructure. For example some services may require Five-Nines of reliability.

 Monitor

Once the WSDL for the Web Service has been published it is important to monitor characteristics about the service to better provide consumers with information about the performance of the service. This information provides you with the ability to properly provision the network infrastructure as well as implement any code optimization needed to ensure reliability.

 Improve

If a business service does not perform as required by the operating agreement or through the monitoring phase enhancements are required for better performance it is at this phase that all improvements are made. Many services are developed because of a customer request and often are left incomplete when it comes to quality assurance. To avoid this problematic approach towards system development all services are required to meet the information requirements as defined by the UDDI specification. The improvement process is the most critical for any business process regardless of the function.

 Validate

True business process interoperability requires the strict implementation of standards provided by organizations such as OASIS and the W3C (World Wide Web Consortium), it is for this reason that Web Services must be valid and adhere to standards and not rely on any one platform. Service Oriented Architectures require governance in order to truly deliver the promise of reusability and extendibility. Once a service has been validated it is promoted and published for public or private consumption.

 Syndicate

Once a service is published it is important to syndicate not only the system information about the service but also defined Meta-Data about performance information to automate reconciling the SLA (Service Level Agreement). Service syndication also allows for a simple system for versioning the service, allowing consumers to improve the process as the speed of business allows.

The use of Web Services over the Internet requires governance in order to deliver the assurance necessary to achieve true process level interoperability, helping you align your business with its customers regardless of the industry you serve.
